Woodley's Holiday lunch service for Children

Woodley Lunch Bunch was set up in the summer of 2020 in response to the financial impact on many families during the pandemic. Going forward, Woodley Lunch Bunch will continue to offer support to the community in any way it can.

Donations

At Woodley Lunch Bunch we rely on the wonderful generosity of our local community who support us with food and activity donations, use of premises, and monetary gifts, as well as the generous nature of our sponsors who support us with wise advice and access to grants.

Our requirements change over time and can depend on the donations of our corporate supporting partners who are wonderfully generous and often provide us with bulk goods which is then reflected in the other items we request from our friends in the local community.

Food Donations

We ask for food donations during and just before our delivery periods.

We will also ask for specific donations at times between our lunch delivery periods, such as easter eggs and advent calendars.

Please keep an eye on our facebook page for up to date requirements.

What is Woodley Lunch Bunch?

We operate a packed lunch delivery service to children during the school holidays.

We deliver during school holiday time to families in Woodley (RG5) who are having a difficult time financially, or in other ways. We also deliver activity packs, toiletry/hygiene parcels and food packages when possible.

Originally founded in 2020 in response to the Coronavirus pandemic and the precarious financial situation people found themselves in we are unfortunately still seeing that need now.

As we move forward we will try to be as reactive as we can to changing situations in order to continue to support our local community.

Events

As well as offering packed lunches in school holidays, we have been supporting local families in other ways, as the need has arisen.

Halloween

We like to keep our lunches and food activities seasonal, so we had S'mores in the summer, pumpkins to carve at Halloween, and lovely gingerbread houses to decorate at Christmas.

Shoes & Coats

In the winter, we organised a warm coats and shoes project, in conjunction with First Days Children's Charity. Every family had a delivery of coats and shoes for the children. First Days also offered brand new toys and games for the parents to select at a socially distanced Christmas event.

Mother's Day

We were delighted to offer the mums in Lunch Bunch a little treat for Mother's Day. We gave the children cards to colour in, Share Wokingham provided daffodils and First Days donated toiletry sets for the children to gift to their mums. It has been a tough time for mums with having to do schooling at home as well as all the usual chores and, in some cases, work. It was lovely to be able to help the children to thank their mums.

Stationery Project

With the children having to stay at home during lockdown, the cost of home learning arose as an issue. We were able to help by providing notebooks, pens, pencils, folders etc  These were donated by the local community who responded so generously to our request for donations. Our collecting boxes were filled and others donated items via our Amazon wishlist.

Lockdown IT

We were lucky enough to have several laptops, printers and an iPad donated. These were invaluable for home learning during lockdown and we are so grateful to those in our community who donated equipment they no longer needed.

Our Amazing Supporters

Woodley Lunch Bunch would not be possible without the support of some amazing individuals and organisations. We would like to express our thanks to all of the organisations shown below for their support in financial grant access, amazing food contributions, support in getting setup and ongoing support for our mission. Thank You!

Of course none of this would be possible without our amazing band of volunteers, who give their time, effort, skill and fuel to enable Lunch Bunch to provide the meals to support our community.

Thank You All!!!!
